My Dogs Health Was More Important Than Mine

Hey Beauties!

You probably read the title and thought it can't possibly be so, and let me be the first to tell you, it ABSOLUTELY is.

A few months ago my dogs food was recalled. Now, to give you a little perspective, it took us months to find my boy a food that was both high quality food with quality ingredients, no corn, wheat or soy, high quality protein, Canadian made, and with no fillers or preservatives. Now, I say this with slight shame....but I came home from work, where I had eaten Subway for lunch, I warmed up a packet of Mr. Noodles, popped a bag of popcorn, and sat down to research my dogs new food.....no.....I am not kidding......This was real life.

So as I sat there, looking through ingredient list after ingredient list, comparing and trying to make an informed decision it dawned on me; I was prioritizing my dogs food and health needs, but not giving a damn about my own.

My Handsome Pup, Kylo.

The reason I wanted Kylo on a high quality food was to keep him around as LONG as possible, to support his joints as he grows, to support healthy cognition as he developed from a puppy to an adult dog, to maintain a healthy weight and to make sure he had the fuel he needed to be active. Now why on EARTH was I not putting the same thought into MY OWN health?

I take my dog for a walk every day for an hour, sometimes twice! I work on his training several times a day, and make sure he drinks enough water. But when it comes to myself, I can go an entire day without water, and I can migrate from my bed in the morning, to the couch, to a chair to work, to a car to drive home, to a chair in the back yard, back to the couch and then back to bed to call it a night.

I very quickly realized this needed to change. I am getting to an age where I am noticing my body change, as it does as you age, but I am also getting to an age where if I don't take my health seriously, nasty things can happen. I am amazing AND notorious for sticking to things for the allotted 21 days, and then going back to normal ways.

SO- here is to making a plan, and sticking to it for longer than 21 days. Moving and fuelling my body has to last forever- not just 21 days, but for all the days to come <3

Short and sweet, but until next time,

Be kind to yourself!
