CBD Oil. What is it? What's it good for? How to take it? Keep reading to find out all the details!
Hey, Lovelies!
As many of you probably know I am a huge advocate for CBD products, but you may not know why!

2020 has brought on a lot of new challenges. One of them has been stress and anxiety like I have never experienced before. I have definitely experienced stress in my life, but never EVER like this. The overwhelming sense of uncertainty is what affects me the most since I am a type-A person who thrives on stability and consistency.
In 2020 I have experienced a ton of new things….one of which has been panic attacks. I never understood what a panic attack was, or what it felt like, or why they were so debilitating…..I GET IT NOW! They are horrible and hard on your body and mind and honestly, quite scary.
Now, CBD is not magic, and it may not work for everyone, I am just sharing my experience with it and how it’s helped me.
First, lets start by clearing up some common misconceptions and questions about CBD!
Q. “Will CBD get me high?”
A. NO! CBD is “Non-intoxicating”, it does not make you feel high, or euphoric. CBD does not contain THC, which is the compound of marijuana that makes you feel high. Now, consider this: while CBD isn't "intoxicating," it is "psychoactive.". This doesn't mean it will get you high - but think of this as affecting you the same way your morning cup of coffee would be. Psychoactive simply means it interacts with our mind, which is why we get the anti-anxiety, and anti-stress, sleep-promoting benefits of CBD.
Q. Does all CBD come from Marijuana?
A. NO! CBD can also be extracted from hemp as well. Fact: Hemp has been cultivated for over 10,000 years for a multitude of uses around the world!

Q. Is CBD a sedative?
A. Technically, no. Some people find it “calming” and “relaxing”, but a common misconception is that it is a sedative. You can get CBD products with THC in them, and those can absolutely have a more sedative feel to them, but CBD on its own does not have a sedative effect. There is extensive research being done as we speak on the efficacy of CBD and it’s effects on disordered thinking (anxiety), but again, anxiety relief and sedation are not the same things!
Q. Are all CBD products the same?
A. In my personal experience, I have found that they really do vary! To me personally, I am learning more about proper sourcing and manufacturing standards, which carrier oils are best, and which quality standards to make sure a company is adhering to. It’s like toilet paper….it’s just one of those things you can’t cheap out on! If you find a CBD product that is a fraction of the cost of another, you should do your research and see WHY that might be.
OK! Now that we have gotten the misconceptions out of the way, let’s talk about how to take it! There are actually a few different ways that you can administer CBD and they are:
Inhalation (Vaping): This is the fastest way to consume it, and the highest concentration of CBD. The cons of this would be that it can be hard on the lungs (I personally find it to be), sometimes you can consume more than you mean to, and it typically is a bit more expensive because you would need a vape pen and accessories.
Topical: I LOVE using CBD Topically! There are so many amazing options like body lotions, body wash, bath balms, or even pain sticks. This method I find super helpful for pain relief. It’s nice because it is the mildest method and is great for localized inflammation you want to give extra attention to. CBD's topical use, it's an incredible moisturizer, emollient, and restorative - and it rates zero on the comedogenic scale! That means it doesn't clog pores or cause acne. Whether it's dull skin that's missing that dewy glow, difficult-to-deal-with acne, or eczema, CBD's chock-full of omegas (fatty lipids) and anti-inflammatory powers that can help.

Sublingual: This is my go-to method for daily use. I love tinctures, and just measure out what I need, drop it under my tongue, hold for 60 seconds, and off I go with the rest of my day. I have tried a wide variety of tinctures and honestly, even the natural ones taste good! That said, a citrus flavour is my first choice :) I love this method because it’s very easy to control the amount I am taking, and it has a long-lasting effect. The thing you need to watch for is what the CBD is carried in. Some tinctures use alcohol, so if you are trying to voice that look for ones that use other carrier oils instead like avocado oil or vegetable glycerin!
Alright! So now we have cleared up the misconceptions, and have talked about how to take it! Now I’m going to touch on the three reasons I use CBD. There are a TON of uses for it out there, but these are the 3 major reasons I use CBD as part of my wellness routine.
ANXIETY
I Use CBD daily for anxiety relief along with helpful tools like journaling, breathwork, meditation, and other self-regulating rituals to make sure I keep my thoughts in check, and my racing mind at bay. I do think it is very important not to rely on things like CBD as a cure-all for anxiety, but to use it in addition to other healthy coping mechanisms to help get to the root cause of why you’re feeling anxious in the first place.

PAIN RELIEF
This is a multi-faceted use for me since I have a few different types of pain I deal with. One of which is headaches. I have them frequently and I have found that having an extra dose of CBD has helped reduce them, and also reduces my need for things like Advil and Tylenol, which both I and my kidneys love! I train a lot! I do Taekwon-Do 3 times a week, and I do other forms of physical activity the rest of the week and I have found that CBD has helped a ton with inflammation and muscle recovery! It’s also great to help speed up the healing of bumps and bruises.
SLEEP
I have found that CBD is an amazing addition to my nighttime routine and helps me fall asleep faster, and also stay asleep better throughout the night. I usually wake up several times a night and with CBD I find that I sleep very soundly and wake up much more rested.
Finding where to purchase CBD can be tricky! But my favourite place to shop is https://www.getmysupply.co/insider/wellnessunfolding/
