Sometimes you wake up, and you are ready to slay the day! You feel that zing when you open the curtains, and there’s that little extra pep in your step as you get ready for the day. You zip down to make your morning smoothie and have a total jam session to your favourite song as you make it.

Oh, but then, there are days where you wake up in a sour mood, with no energy, no drive, literally dragging your way through getting out of bed, dressed and into your workday, and you feel like no matter what you do you are just exhausted even though you JUST woke up.

This is how I was feeling all morning on Monday and Tuesday. I had no reason to feel this way either! I woke up with no energy or motivation to get my day going or to tackle my to-do list. On Monday I was LIVING in my head. Shortly after starting to get the workday, I started telling myself I would never finish all the work I had, and the work I was doing was not nearly good enough. I talked myself out of doing my workout because my internal dialog was garbage. This self-destructive attitude seeped into the following day and by 10 am I decided enough was enough.

Time to RECLAIM my headspace! It took about 30 minutes and I followed these SIMPLE and quick steps to get my headspace happy and clear.

1. Wash Yo’ Face!!!

This takes about a minute to do and it instantly refreshes you. I like to “wash away the day” and sometimes you can do that at 10 am and just start the day over right then and there with a fresh face!

2. Get Changed!

If I really think about it, a vast majority of the times I feel my mood taking a dive, I am usually in my track pants, and the same shirt I was wearing the day….or for a few days before. I find if I change my outfit into something less slouchy, and something that makes me feel good my mood picks up pretty shortly after!

3. Do Something That Makes You FEEL Good!

For me, this is something as simple as brushing out my (crazy long) hair from the messy bun it has likely been sitting in for a day or two and putting on some mascara! Now, I’m not saying that you need makeup to feel good, but for me, mascara makes me feel awake and confident. This could also be something as simple as brushing your teeth, or tying your hair up….whatever gives you that little pump of “ I got this”, do THAT!

4. Pump Some Happy Music!

Crank a beat that makes you FEEL happy! Ditch the sad sappy songs and pump up the jams that you can help but bop to. I actually have made a specific playlist when I am feeling a little down in the dumps, and you better believe there is a hell of a lot of Disney on that bad boy!

5. MOVE your body!

On my Instagram I am constantly talking about “moving the energy” and I firmly believe in doing this. In these moments when we are not in the best headspace, where we feel down in the dumps, where we feel like we aren’t seeing results or change, or we aren’t WORTH trying to reach our goals, we usually feel like there is no point in peeling yourself away from the couch. THESE are the moments you have to PUSH yourself to get up, and move; shifting your energy into something positive. Move the negative energy OUT of your body- release it- let it go and move forward. This doesn’t have to be a wild workout, this can be something as simple as going for a walk. Just MOVE the energy out of where it is now, and shift it into something positive.

BONUS TIP: FUEL YOUR BODY!

This is probably my most recent strategy when I am feeling down. I look at the foods I have been consuming and ask myself if they have served me well. Usually, when I feel down, I am in dire need of “comfort food” and I tend to binge on those foods to make myself “feel better”, then, end up feeling guilty and like I have taken such a step backward in my journey. I have been challenging myself to FUEL my body when I am feeling down. It can be an apple, a smoothie, tuna on toast….nothing elaborate here folks, just something that serves my body well.

So, the next time you are in a funky mood and feel like there is a dark cloud of impending doom hanging over your head, give these tips a try! Share with me your own tips that you turn to when your mood is in need of a boost! I hope these help you lift your spirits in a time of need.

Until next time!
